April 2021 Newsletter

Dear Fellow Physicians,

March 30th, 2021 was Doctors Day, a tradition started in 1933 by Eudora Brown Almond wife of Dr. Crawford W. Long who first used the compound, Ether as anesthetic. As the tradition goes, on this day, Red Carnations are offered to the fraternity of Doctors. On behalf of IAMA-IL, would like to offer virtual red carnations. I hope and pray that the post pandemic world (is it too premature to say so?) provides clarity and understanding to continue our chosen journey as health care providers.

When other professionals like trial lawyers continue to be organized to pursue their interests, we cannot succumb to physician burnout. We frequently get questioned about the value of organized medicine. We continue to believe that all the answers and solutions can be found in google searches. Unfortunately, just like our patients we fail in our pursuit when we do not stand for our organizations. I take this opportunity to exhort you to participate in Membership Drive and strengthen our organization to promote the interest of physicians. Please encourage your friends and colleagues to join us and take advantage of April discount. We are stronger together!

If you missed registering for Sustainable Caring - Physician Wellness Program, no worries! you have another option, check out our upcoming session of Yoganidra by Yoga Veda lead by Vaidya Deepti Suri. This is a twice a month holistic wellness program. Feel free to bring your spouses, non-member Physician friends as well.

We will be hosting Dr Prem Rupani Memorial Golf event on August 25th. Please join us.

We are working on IAMA Annual Gala scheduled to be on October 23rd, 2021. Await details as we keep our eyes open to CDC guidelines and state mandates.

Golden Stethoscope Awards Program to honor our young physicians in research, has been already rolled out and we are receiving abstracts from multiple universities. Please feel free to spread the word.

Many of you attended highly informative talk by Dr Chundi on COVID, if not please visit our website

On April 28th 7pm, IAMA-IL will be featuring a virtual talk on Colon health moderated by Dr. Neetha Dhananjaya and Dr. Sudha Bhoopalam

Thanks for urging Governor Pritzker to VETO the outrageous prejudgment interest bill (House Bill 3360). You now have a chance to urge Illinois state senator to Veto “no” on Illinois trial lawyers S.B 72, a modified bill passed out of Illinois house on March 18th, 2021.

Hope you also had a chance to support House bill 711, Prior Authorization Reform Act to help reduce delay in treatment as patients wait to get preauthorization for much needed care.

Spring is in the air! are you ready to hike outdoors? Cooped up between four walls with COVID restrictions and cold weather, it is time to get out and enjoy the warmth of refreshing spring. In addition to telling our homebound patients that sitting is new smoking, we are also encouraging them to get out and enjoy the nature, for now it is found that 2 hours outside the 4 walls is equal to 10,000 steps! Let’s practice what we preach. Look out for updates on IAMA-IL national park trip in near future.

You wanted another musical evening and here it is. April 25th, 7pm Karaoke Night, register ahead for your turn to sing.

Dr. Suneela Harsoor

President, IAMA-IL

"Students of Medicine, Apprentices of the Guild, with whom are the promises and in whom center our hopes -- let me congratulate you on the choice of calling which offers a combination of intellectual and moral interests found in no other profession, and not met with at all in the common pursuits of life -- a combination which, in the words of Sir James Paget, 'offers the most complete and constant union of those three qualities which have the greatest charm for pure and active minds -- novelty, utility and charity.' "

-William Osler

to the students entering the University of Minnesota School of Medicine in 1892
